About Us

Jeff Strang was born and raised in New Jersey, lived 10 years in Iowa, and has lived in the Portland area since 1983. He holds Bachelor of Science degrees from Iowa State University in Mathematics, Animal Ecology and International Studies (1980). From 1980-82, he was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ghana, 1 year as a secondary school teacher (math and science) and 1 year in rural development, where he bacame interested in construction. After working in various jobs in the 1980's, he took a year's worth of classes at Portland Community College in architectural drafting and remodeling, then went into business on his own.

From 1993-2004, Jeff was an Oregon construction contractor (#96029) specializing in residential remodeling and repair. His clients all came through word of mouth. In 2004, he decided he wanted to work less with his body and more with other people, and was hired in 2005 by the city of Portland, Oregon, as a Housing Inspector, enforcing the city’s property maintenance code. The job seemed a perfect fit, but he was laid off in September, 2009, and soon thereafter began preparing to enter the private home inspection field.

The work of a private home inspector is similar to that of a public Housing Inspector -- just more detailed -- and Jeff feels "right at home" in this new position.
